Carolyn Pyfrom

Carolyn Pyfrom was born in 1971 and grew up in rural Alabama. She received a scholarship to study in Tokyo in 1993 and returned to Japan for two years to work as an English teacher after finishing school at Troy University.  In 1998 she attended a drawing workshop with Daniel Graves in New York City which led her to pursue a classical-realist course of study at his atelier school, The Florence Academy of Art.  She currently divides her year between studios in Philadelphia, where she also teaches, and south Alabama, where she enjoys spending time with her extended family.

Carolyn views painting as a way of engaging her immediate and present surroundings.  It is personal, experiential, and existential.  She enjoys and paints in all genres with a special affinity for figure painting.
