Sarah Gilbert
As a glass artist, I continually work to unite my conceptual ideas and inspirations with the satisfaction that I get from refined craftsmanship. The longer I work with hot glass, the more I realize how infinite is the mystery of glass, and how much the material has to teach me. The discipline that comes from working with a demanding material like glass, and the inspiration that comes from the discoveries and frustrations along the way, constantly feed back into my creative studio process. Thus, for me, the concepts of making art and making craft are completely inseparable.
I am always surprised and inspired by the endless multitude of forms glass can take, and the graceful ability glass possesses to communicate the subtleties of light and shadow. In this respect, I try to make my forms and color palettes reflective of the sublime and understated elegance I glimpse in everyday life.
