Toby Wright |
|||||
Toby Wright was born in Monaco in 1976. He began his art studies in England, with 4 years studying Illustration, earning a BA (Hons) degree in 1998. Dissatisfied with much of the instruction he received, he enrolled at The Florence Academy of Art in 1999 where he finally found a realistic painting program that believed in traditional artistic values. During his third year, he was invited to assist teaching while still continuing his studies. Since then, he has become a principle instructor in the painting department, was the director of the drawing program for the sculpture department, and is now a principal instructor in the advanced painting program. With a return to traditional values, Toby studies closely the old Masters such as Sargent, Rembrandt, Velasquez and many others. Through a classical palette, he paints in oils on canvas or board, and works from Nature whether outdoors for his landscapes, or with models for his portraits. It is only in this way that he can hope to capture the presence of a person, or convey the depths of a landscape. The study of Nature is essential, and it is through the humble observation of it that one discovers its truth, and subsequently, its beauty. One must find the fine balance of Nature to capture its life. Very often, it is the extremes that are acclaimed, and the fine balance often seen as bland and insipid. The harmony of Nature is based on that fine balance. |
